Losing the Plot Film Retreat
Losing the Plot is a film retreat in rural Northumberland, creating the conditions for making a community around alternative cinema. It ‘loses the plot’ in so far as the films are selected from contemporary global documentary, fiction and artist cinema because they use formal and poetic approaches outside of the dominant storytelling structures. It is programmed according to a novel rubric - that of the Ignorant Curator. Inspired by Ranciere’s Ignorant Schoolmaster, the films are selected un-previewed. This results in excellent conversations at the end of each film because there is no single expert in the room, just an aggregate of the audience’s expertise. LTP has been running for over a decade, bringing people together in a rural community to camp, eat together, sit around fires, watch and talk about films and how they mediate our collective life and social, cultural and political survival.
