Education, Cinema

Kids Kabin is an incredible youth project in Walker, East Newcastle. GCP was lucky to develop a strong relationship with the young people and the youth workers over a filmmaking project connected to the Wayfaring Cinema programme, funded by ACE. Starting in May, with the support of Ukrainian filmmaker Svitlana Pohasiy (@kidsmoviefest), we met a group of 10 or so 11-13 year olds for a couple of hours, playing with photography and filming. Engaging young people who often fall outside the more established cultural circuits, Good Cave Projects delivered a practical filmmaking and film screening project, facilitating an exploration of the ideas and imagery in Andrea Luka Zimmerman’s film Wayfaring Stranger. Participants developed two simple experimental films around the ideas of freedom of movement, autonomy, community and wild spaces - one a music video, and the other a poetic evocation of the wild urban parklands just beyond the youth project.
